A.  Mechanics

1.    All bonafide Religious Education (REED) students amateur and professional photography enthusiasts duly endorsed by their respective REED Advisers may join the contest.

2.    All participants are required to submit the copy of the signed REGISTRATION AND WAIVER FORM which can be secured from their respective REED Advisers and to be submitted to Mr. Dennis Madrigal at the REED Office on or before February 26. Only those students who submitted the complete requirements within the specified date will be eligible to join the photo contest.

3.    All participants are responsible for providing their photographic equipment, including cameras, spare batteries, lenses or additional memory cards. They are expected to come prepared with their own photographic equipment needs.

4.    There will be three (3) categories for the photo contest which is open for both point-and-shoot and DSLR users.

Category 1: PEOPLE

Photographs featuring those who are taking part in the Solidarity Day Celebration 2013.  These may include portraits, small groups, crowds and the like.

Category 2: PLACES

Photographs focusing on locations where the events of the Solidarity Day Celebration 2013 are held.  These should give emphasis on the location or specific areas in Amphitheater, Grandstand and streets for the Walk for Faith Venues, etc.

Category 3: EVENTS

Photographs featuring the activities that took place during Solidarity Day Celebration 2013.  These may include activities – ACADEMIC (Quiz Bowl, Essay Writing, Poster Making), RELIGIOUS (Mass, Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, Solidarity Bread Sharing, Candle lighting, etc.), CULTURAL (Film Presentation, Animations, Faith Concert, etc.), TALKS and individual and group SHARING, etc.


5.    Photos must be taken during the Solidarity Day 2013 Celebration on March 1 – 2, 2013. Participants are to report to the University Auditorium by 8:00 AM for the formal registration and determination of their official contest numbers and competition briefing. Any late arrivals will be disqualified.

7.    Concept should be original, entertaining and wholesome, depicting the spirit of the Solidarity Day 2013 Celebration youth, faith, worship, unity, solidarity, celebration and fellowship.

8.    “Set” shots with models, and other paraphernalia that will be part of the image are not allowed.

9.    Entries which suggest and/or show obscene and indecent acts or poses, offensive to Catholic moral standards are not eligible and therefore disqualified as entries.

10. Use of logos and brand names, foul language and violent actions are grounds for immediate disqualifications.

11. The following are the list of equipment that you can bring and utilize during the Solidarity Day 2013 Photo Contest:

FILTERS: Polarizing, Neutral Density, Close-up, Skylight, Softmat, Infrared Filters

Tripods, Monopods and the like

Remote switch trigger and wireless controller
Battery Grips

12. The Solidarity Day 2013 Photo Contest is an overnight photo-taking event, so participants should take extra care of their own health and comfort. By taking part in this event, participants acknowledge that the organizer is indemnified against any accidents or injuries that may occur during the course of the event.

13. All participants must abide by the competition rules. Violation of any above-stated rules and/or non-compliance of the same shall be a ground for automatic disqualification

B. Submission of Entries 

14. Participants can only submit two photos per category as entries

15. All entries must be submitted both in hard copies/printouts and digital copies. No RAW files will be allowed. Images may not be altered by any image editing software. Enhancements must be limited to basic post-processing such as adjustments of contrast, minimal color  balancing, sharpening, cropping, and dodging and burning. 

    For digital copies, images will only be accepted in JPEG format. Image size should have at least 1800 pixels X 1200 pixels at 280/300 DPI. For hard copies/printouts, images will only be accepted in 8” x10” canvass size in 300 resolution.

16.   All entries should be submitted on or before the given deadline – 5:00PM (March 4, 2013). The Solidarity Day 2013 Photo Contest Organizing Committee shall have no liability for delayed, corrupted or lost entries.  The organizers reserve the right to refuse and disqualify the photo entries which will be submitted beyond the deadline.

17. All entries must be an original material taken by the photographer and should not include watermarks, signatures, frames, date and/or time stamp or any other markings on the photo. Names of photographers shall be included only after the judging and during the photo exhibition.

18. Entries must be unpublished and not be submitted or to be submitted to any other competition, owned by other entity, nor subject of any copyright issue.

19. Costs of photo developing and other related expenses shall be shouldered by the participant.

20. The Solidarity Day 2013 Photo Contest Organizing Committee respects the rights of the photographer and recognizes that the copyright of the photograph belongs to the photographer.  Nonetheless, by participating in the contest, the photographer shares his/her copyright to the Solidarity Day 2013 Photo Contest Organizing Committee.  The organizer reserves the right to use any submitted photograph for the purpose of information, advocacy, campaigns and promotions in all its Solidarity Day activities and projects in the future, whether print, online, or any other medium without compensation to the photographer. Proper acknowledgement will be made.

C.   Selection of Winning Entries

21. Entries will be judged per category.

22. In order to be declared a valid contest, there must have at least a minimum of ten (10) entries for each category. Should the contest have less than ten (10) entries, it shall be declared “NO CONTEST” and all prizes allocated shall revert to the contest organizers.

23. From all the submitted photo entries, five (5) judges composed of photographers and Solidarity Day Academic Committee representatives shall pick three winners for each category.  

24. Decisions by the organizer and competition judges are final. No appeals will be entertained.

D. Prizes

Aside from Academic incentives, the winners of the Solidarity Day 2013 Photo Contest will receive Certificates of Recognition and Cash Prizes:

The 10 finalists’ entries shall be put on display at the University Main Lobby for the Solidarity Day 2013 Photo Exhibit on March 11 – 16, 2012.

The date of the Awarding of Prizes to winners will be done during the Photo Exhibit. Details of the Awarding Ceremony will be announced soon.
